I’ve made a small fortune owning Abbott and it will only become larger over the next 20 years.
I always think very big picture…
Globally we have an aging population. Also, we have global population growth. This means that more human beings will need the services of companies like Abbott Laboratories. Therefore, the healthcare sector is one of my favorite sectors to invest in, particularly medical device companies like Abbott.
Abbott offers a range of medical devices as well as a myriad of diagnostic services. As long as the human body endures a breakdown of homeostasis (yep medical school dropout writing this), companies like Abbott will continue to make money.
Below is a chart of Abbott showing rising and uninterrupted dividend payments.
Owning shares of Abbott can be viewed as owning a rising income stream that will pay shareholders in perpetuity (most likely). This allows investors to hold onto the shares for the long-run in order to experience large, wealth producing gains, in the form of share price appreciation and dividend payments.
Abbott has also outperformed the SPY going back to the early 2000s by a little over 500%.
In summary, Abbott isn’t a no-brainer buy and hold stock, but rather a…think logically for about ten seconds, and then buy and keep buying stock.
